Most Vibrant Prayer to Shiva
The magnificent work Soundarya Lahari by Adi Shankara give some of the most alive and vibrant compositions. These are probably some of the most potent and powerful prayers; especially to Shiva. This is so because they are the first hand account by the one who had raised his consciousness to the level of Shiva Consciousness.
One such verse is normally taken to be a powerful prayer for protection from harmful and malefic entities. This deeply Spiritual verse is more than just an invocation for protection. It seeks the removal of all impurity; physical as well as mental from the being of the one who chants it. Impurities include diseases as well as negative thoughts and feelings.
I know that the wordings in Sanskrit are difficult to pronounce and it is much better to chant the meaning in English which I have given as a prayer to remove impurities. If chanted with sincerity this will have the same effect.
Meaning
I bow to Shiva; the ONE like untainted crystal; the wheel of time; the ONE who creates prana; and my MOTHER.
I bow to both of THEM; who glow like moonlight, remove the darkness of ignorance, from my mind forever, make me like the Chakora beaming with moon light.
Note- Chakora is a mystical bird, normally associated with the moon in Hindi poetry – “Chand aur Chakora”. This is not to be taken literally and is symbolic of the mind being free like a bird, soaring in the skies.

ReplyDeleteCan I simply listen to Mahamrityunjaya mantra while working in office. Also, I wanted to know the duration of Brahma murhat and do we have to take bath before we do jab of Mahamrityunjaya mantra.
Yes you can listen to the Mantra and it is not essential to have a bath.
DeleteBrahma Muhutra is for 48 minutes, it commences 1 hour and 36 minutes before sunrise and ends 48 minutes before sunrise.
