Three techniques of Pranayama

These are three methods or techniques of Pranayama which are followed for good health and Wellbeing

This is the first type of Pranayama known as the Surya Pranayama or the right nostril breathing. The right nostril is associated with the Pingla nadi. This nadi is associated with the Sun or Solar power. This is the positive or male energy and it corresponds to the left hemisphere of the brain.

This kind of Pranayama increases the solar energy in the body and is beneficial in curing diseases like cough, cold, and bronchitis and is even beneficial in treating major diseases like polio.

Here the left nostril has to be closed with the finger or thumb and the breathing has to be done through the right nostril only. Here the method of breathing to be followed is the same as before. I am again giving the breathing technique.

Method
Sit with your spine and neck erect.

Take a deep breath and count 1,2,3,4 while inhaling.

Then hold your breath while counting 1,2,3,4.

Then exhale while counting 1,2,3,4.

Then again, count 1,2,3,4 and hold your breath.

Repeat this procedure 10 to 15 times daily.

The second type of Pranayama is called Chandra Pranayama or left nostril breathing and is associated with the Ida nadi, which is associated with the moon. This is feminine or passive energy. This type of Pranayama is beneficial in removing illnesses like excessive heat, sunstroke. Here the right nostril has to be closed and the breathing is done through the left nostril. The technique remains the same.

The third type of Pranayama is the alternative nostril breathing to create a balance. Here one has to inhale through the right nostril then close that nostril and exhale through the left nostril. Then inhale through the left nostril and close that nostril and exhale through the right nostril. The Pranayama technique is the same as describe above.


Note – these breathing exercises should be done under the supervision of a certified yoga or naturopathy instructor.
