Best Mantras for Makar Sankranti

Maker Sankranti is the first of the major Hindu festivals of the New Year, which is celebrated all over India. This festival is known as Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Maghi in Punjab, which falls a day after Lohri, Uttarayan in Gujarat, and the highlight being the traditional Kite Flying festivities. This year Makar Sankranti falls on the 15th of January. Maker Sankranti is mostly celebrated in most parts of India according to the local customs and traditions prevalent in that part of India.

Maker Sankranti is a most auspicious period to commence any new venture or beginning in life. The texts have highlighted this day as the day on which to let go of the dark and bitter past, the day to forget enmity and rivalry and offer the hand of friendship to enemies and rivals. Depressed people are best advised to earmark this day to forget the sad past, including broken love affairs and marriages and turbulent times of the past.  This day has also been earmarked as the day to embark on the path of the search for the truth or Nirvana to those already searching for the ultimate bliss.

Many readers have asked me, time again as to which are the best and most beneficial Mantras that can be chanted on this particular day. This site has published many Mantras-Yantras and paranormal remedies, which can be commenced or concluded on the day of Maker Sankranti. For the benefit of the layperson, the most prescribed forms of worship are the chanting of any Surya [Sun] Mantra, the chanting of a Saraswati Mantra or any Gayatri Mantra.

All the three Mantras prescribed are Satvik [Pure] Mantras and are extremely beneficial in removing dark, negative and harmful thoughts and emotions, which have clouded the mind, and filling the mind with helpful, positive and enlightening thoughts and feelings.

If still confused, I would recommend the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra, which can be seen here- Gayatri Mantra. The Gayatri Mantra can be chanted 11 times in the early morning, facing the Sun. This should be done after having a bath and wearing fresh and clean clothes. It is also best to avoid the consumption of alcohol and non-vegetarian food on the day of Maker Sankranti.

  1. It gave me much pleasure and joy to read the interview, shukriya Sir Neel.
The best part was " if they possessed even a little bit of occult powers, why would they need to charge people or even accept Dakshina when they could easily make anything they desire materialize out of nowhere."
