Hymn of Time

The Atharveda is the 4th of the ancient Indian scriptures the Vedas. Veda translated into English means knowledge. These 4 scriptures are divided into categories or types of knowledge which they impart. The Atharveda is commonly believed to have been composed by the Sages Angiras and Atharvan, some say that these are not two individuals but two groups of Sages. The exact dating of the Athaeveda is unknown but evidence has been uncovered of their practice till about 1500 B.C.

The Atharveda comprises of mostly Charms and remedies like Charms for illness, virility, evil eye, magic and so on. Book 10 contains certain Philosophical and Spiritual Hymns.

This is a Hymn which describes the march forward of indestructible and the Ever-Existent Time. The translation and meaning is my own, and is not a word to word translation and meaning, which corresponds to the original.

Hymn of Time
Time like an infinite eyed, and indestructible horse with limitless
reins marches forward.
The wise inspired to gain the divinest of knowledge mount his chariot, as do all the beings that live in him..
The oceans were born in time, as did the Creator Brahma, and the planets. The Sun rises and sets in time.
In time does the wind blow, the Earth lives in time, even the immeasurable infinite Sky lives in time.
In time are created the divine scriptures, so also will those which are yet to be created. The practices and sacrifices of the wise are born of time.
The greatest sages Angiras and Atharvan who heard these divine words are the creation of time as are the musicians of the gods and the fairies-the Gandharvas and Apsarases.
Time rules over the spiritual, mental and material worlds through the divine Brahma. Time the Supreme Ever-Existent moves forward irrespective of anything.
