This tree finds mention as a sacred tree in the ancient Hindu religious tests the Puranas as a sacred tree and also for its medicinal value, as it is known to cure numerous diseases. This is probably the main reason why the ancient Sages worshipped this tree as the provider of health.

This sloka describes the Pipal tree as the symbol of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The root as Brahma, the trunk as Vishnu and the branches as Shiva. As the King of the trees, the giver of long life and as the great herb.
