Past Life Regression has been mentioned in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, written in the second century BC. I have taken the following verses, translated from the original Sanskrit by BonGiovanni.
3.16 By self-control over these three-fold changes (of property, character and condition), knowledge of the past and the future arise.
3.17 The sound of a word, the idea behind the word, and the object the idea signifies is often taken as being one thing and may be mistaken for one another. By self-control over their distinctions, understanding of all languages of all creatures arises.
3.18 By self-control on the perception of mental impressions, knowledge of previous lives arises
3.19 By self-control on any mark of a body, the wisdom of the mind activating that body arises.
3.20 By self-control on the form of a body, by suspending perceptibility and separating effulgence there from, there arises invisibility and inaudibility
These are very interesting verses, Past Life Regression is mentioned in verses 3.18.This is the only verse in which past life regression is mentioned. I have included the other verses because these will help us understand Past Life Regression better.
When during the state of deep sleep during Past Life Regression therapy, or INDUCED SOMNAMBULISM, the mind has the ability to see and live previous births. However, this is possible only for a trained or yogic mind. As the other verses indicate, the mind also has the powers to read the mind and thoughts of other people.
Assuming that one reaches a state of deep sleep during induced somnambulism, the mind of the subject in the somnambulistic state could also read the mind and thoughts of the operator or other people present during the past life regression sessions. Hence, as I have said before in SOMNAMBULISM TEMPORARY INSANITY, the subject would most probably blurt out the thoughts and mental impressions of other persons or the operator, which would be taken by an inexperienced operator as Past Life Experiences. The subject may in this deep state even resist the truth of his past lives coming out and fool everyone by blurting out his deepest fantasies.
