Maha Shivaratri, the Great Night of Shiva, which is one of the most auspicious of the Hindu Tithis and festivals and unarguably the most auspicious Sacred Day for the worship of Shiva, falls today on the 7th of March 2016.  This day is said to be especially beneficial and important for those Sadhakas who wish to embark upon any kind of Mantra, Yantra or Tantra Prayoga, including Aghor Panth Sadhana and Experiments, especially those connected to Shiva.

The specific timings for each of the Four Prahars or segments and the methods of worship and the special Shiva Mantras for each of the Four Prahars of Maha Shivaratri can be seen here in this post - Maha Shivaratri Mantras. This Shiva Mantra Sadhana is especially important to those Shiv Bhakts who keep the traditional fast and Worship Shiva for the 24 hours of the day and night of this Tithi, which falls on the 14th Tithi of the Krishna Paksha known as the Krishna Chaturdashi or the 14th day of the Dark Fortnight of the Hindu Lunar Month as per the Hindu Calendar.

However, the specific rituals and forms of worship are likely to vary depending upon the local traditions and customs prevailing in that particular region of India.  The Layperson can worship Shiva in any manner in which he is comfortable. The Great Master Adi Shankara had composed the Divine Shiva Manas Puja or a special form of Shiva Bhakti in which the devotee worships Shiva on the mental level without actually performing any kind of Puja or ritual. That mental form of worship can be seen here – Shiva Manas Puja . There is another more simpler Prayer also composed by Adi Shankara, which can be seen here - Simple Shiva Worship for Maha Shivaratri

Those who are unable to keep a fast on the Day of Maha Shivaratri can also commence any kind of Mantra Sadhana, including those invoking Shiva on this day. The period of Maha Shivaratri can be of great importance and be most beneficial in starting any health related Mantra Experiment of Shiva, like the Mahamrityumjaya Mantra, many variations of the Mahamrityumjaya Mantra can be seen in the Section on Shiva Mantras.

Maha Shivratri can also be most beneficial for performing any kind of Mantra Sadhana for Purification or Eradication of Sins, especially for those people suffering from any kind of Guilt Complex or Mental Turmoil pertaining to the mistakes or events of the past.
