The Science of Sound: Ancient Bija Mantras for Deep Sleep

In this post, I have written about the technique of using the ancient science of sound hidden in the Vedic Beej Mantra to get deep sleep by instantly removing anxiety. This ancient sound healing therapy using deep sleep frequencies generated by chanting the Beej Mantra is a known supernatural method to quickly get rid of insomnia.

During the course of the past 18 years, I have described many insomnia relief mantras, including Beej Mantras. The Vedic Sound Therapy Method for sleep disorders has a calming effect on the nervous system, and it is a proven healing therapy for gaining sound, undisturbed sleep at night.

Bija Mantras for Removing Insomnia

The Preliminary Steps: The practitioner should completely disconnect from mobile phones, TV screens, and Computers at least 15 minutes before going to sleep.

Asana or Posture: The practitioner should lie down comfortably on his back in his bed in the Yogic Pose of Shavasana or the Corpse Pose.

Pranayama: The practitioner should follow the 4-7-8 technique by inhaling for 4 seconds, holding his breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling slowly for 8 seconds. This cycle should be repeated 4-5 times.

The question most people will ask here is how to count the seconds. The simplest technique for beginners is to gently lift or press one finger at a time. There are other counting methods like the “Heartbeat Method,” where each thump of your heart is "one count. But this method is for advanced practitioners.

The Chanting Procedure: The mantra should be chanted for 5-10 minutes or until the practitioner feels sleepy and goes to sleep. The mantra can be chanted mentally; the practitioner should focus their attention comfortably on the vibrations generated by the chanting of the mantra.

The Recommended Mantras: Sham शं. Should be chanted as Shshshshshshsh... mmmmm...The transition from the soft, whispering “Sha” to that deep, closed-lip humming “m” is the natural frequency of a brain that is slowing. It creates an internal resonance just behind the eyes and forehead, which immediately tells the vagus nerve to shut off the fight-flight reaction. Let the sound expand to the beat of a long, slow exhalation.

Another Mantra that can be chanted in the same manner is Mam मं। Start with “M” and just like in Sham, let the final nasal sound trail off smoothly "Mmmmmm".

How to Pronounce the Mantras: The small dot located above some Sanskrit characters, such as "Sh" or "M," is known as an "Anusvara," and this marks the true secret of proper pronunciation when chanting Sanskrit mantras.

The true nature of the sound produced by these letters is difficult to translate into English because when written out, they are often mispronounced Phonetically as either "Sham" (like ham) or "Mam" (like jam), but both forms are incorrect since the short vowel sound creates a non-accurate frequency.

You will find the correct pronunciation is done through making a “short soft ‘uh’ sound that sounds like a hum.” At the end of the sound, keep your lips slightly parted to create a buzzing resonance behind your eyes during the chanting process.
