Narayanaya: The One who resides in all beings, and the One in whom all beings reside.
Gurubhyo Namah: Respectfully addressing Gurus or Masters.

The best time of the day to recite the mantra is the silent and mystical period of Brahma Muhurta, which is normally between 4 and 6 AM. If not possible, then early morning or the period of sunset is the most potent time for generating powerful vibrations by chanting the mantra.
If chanting in the morning, the seeker should take a bath and wear clean, light-coloured clothes. In the evening, he should wash his hands, feet and face before the Mantra Sadhana.
Manas Puja or Mental Worship: Before starting the Mantra Sadhana, the practitioner should close his eyes and focus on his Heart of Hridaya Chakra, which is located between the chest, next to the heart. He should think that the divine energy of Lord Narayana in the form of divine light is present in the Heart Chakra.
Pledge: He should take a pledge to recite the mantra 108 or 1188 times on Guru Purnima and, if desired, every day.
Direction: If possible be should face the Ishan Kon or northeast direction while chanting the mantra; this is the best direction for attracting spiritual energy.
