Nath Tradition Shabar Mantra to Raise Kundalini Energy

In this post, I have written about the Shabar Kundalini Jagran Mantra that was originally given orally by a Master of Kundalini Yoga from the Nath Parampara to his disciples. This mantra is very effective in stimulating the dormant internal energy and making it move upwards from the spine to the brain.

Over the past many years, I have described many mantras, including Shabar, Tantric, and Vedic mantras, to awaken the Kundalini Shakti and open the Chakras. This mantra is very rare and not known even to advanced practitioners of Kundalini Yoga; this is the reason why I have discussed this mantra.

The procedure for activating the energy of the Shabar Mantra has been given below in a step-by-step manner that can enable anyone to practice the Kundalini Jagran Sadhana correctly. However, I must mention that it is only for experience seekers of the Tantra or someone who has some prior experience of Kundalini Yoga.

Nath Tradition Shabar Mantra

1] First Stage of the Chanting of the Shabar Mantra: Place: The place where the practitioner is going to practice the Sadhana should be a silent, airy, and clean room. By airy, I mean a place where there is circulation of fresh air.

Time: The pre-dawn time of Brahma Muhurta is best for the Sadhana. It can also be practiced at night, a couple of hours after meals.

Sitting Mat: A thick cotton or woollen mat or a Khusha Grass mat can be used. The practitioner should sit facing the east or north.

Best Directions for Mantra Chanting: Many readers ask why I keep mentioning these two directions; I will explain this briefly.

Why East: The east is the direction of the rising sun; it connects the mind and body with solar energy. It is best for recharging and revitalising the body and is symbolic of the illumination of the subconsciousness.

Why North: The Earth’s magnetic field flows from the South Pole to the North Pole. Hence, facing the north connects the body with the Polar Energy and reduces physical and invisible resistance during meditation.

Why South and West are not recommended: The south is associated with the God of Death, Yama, and it symbolises dissolution, decline, and downwards flowing energy. The west is the direction of the setting sun and is associated with material gains, rather than spiritual energy.

2] The Second Stage of the Kundalini Awakening Mantra Sadhana: The Yogic Poses of Padmasana, Siddhasana, or Sukhasana are best for the Sadhana. The practitioner should sit with his head and spine erect, but not strained. He should softly close his eyes and observe his breathing for 2-3 minutes.

3] How to Chant the Kundalini Jagran Mantra: The practitioner should mentally focus his attention on the base of his spine or the Muladhara Chakra. He should breathe slowly and deeply and recite the mantra given below in a soft but clear voice, which can be heard only by himself; this is called Upanshu Jaap.

Original Shabar Kundalini Awakening Mantra in Hindi:
ॐ गुरु जी, सत नाम आदेश। पाताल में नागन जागे, सीस पे शिव विराजे। जाग-जाग रे पवन पूत, खोलि कपाट। शब्द सांचा, पिंड कांचा, फुरो मंत्र ईश्वरो वाचा।

English Transliteration of the Kundalini Shakti Stimulating Shabar Mantra:
Om Guru Ji, Sat Naam Aadesh. Patal Mein Nagan Jage, Sees Pe Shiv Viraje. Jaag-Jaag Re Pawan Poot, Kholi Kapat. Shabd Sancha, Pind Kancha, Phuro Mantra Ishwaro Vacha.

Meditation: With every chant, the practitioner should think that a subtle vibration and heat are manifesting in the lower part of his body. The mantra should be chanted 11, 20, or 108 times.

4] Fourth Stage of the Kundalini Mantra Chanting:
The practitioner should not get up immediately after completing the mantra chanting. He should sit in silence for 5 minutes and observe the vibrations in the upper area of his spine and the brain.

He should rub his palms together and move them over his face and eyes and then slowly open them.

Precautions: He should practice the Sadhana for about 15 minutes initially and not overdo it or forcibly retain his breath and attempt to move his energy upwards. If he experiences discomfort, heaviness in the head, or excessive heat, he should stop the Sadhana and sit silently for 2-3 minutes.

It is advisable to consume non-spicy and fresh foods during the course of the Sadhana. I have not mentioned the number of days for which it can be practiced because it all depends upon the experiences of the individuals. As one advances in such mantra experiments, the mind automatically comes to know the best course of action.
