Convincing Reasons Why Brahma is not Worshipped in Hindu Religion

The reason why Brahma is not worshiped in the Hindu Religion is a much-discussed and debated topic, not only in Hinduism but also among followers of other religions and sects. In this article, I have tried to address this much-asked question, which I have come across in many discussions, especially in religious and spiritual forums.

There are some major reasons and stories behind this, which are found in traditional beliefs and the Puranas. These beliefs might not sound convincing to some people; nevertheless, let's have a look at the.

1] The Nature and work of Brahma: Brahma is considered the creator of the Universe, which also means, Brahma created the World. He has the responsibility of creating the Universe, but after his work is done, he does not play an active role in maintaining or preserving it, which is why there seems to be no point in worshiping him.

This is because the nature of human is such that they will not spend their time or energy on something that does not give returns. Hence, Brahma is not worshiped.

2] Hindu Mythological Legends: There are many legends mentioned in the Vedas and Puranas, some of which do not appear convincing. According to a famous legend, Brahma considered himself the greatest god and stated that only he should be worshipped, which angered other gods, who convinced humans that he should not be worshipped.

One story says that Brahma lied to the truthful Narad Muni, which reduced his respect and stopped his worship. According to another legend, Brahma married his daughter Satyavati, which was against religion, so Brahma was deprived of worship.

3] The legend of the rivalry between Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva: Ancient Scriptures mention that Brahma and Vishnu had a dispute about who was the best among them. Then a huge Jyotirlinga appeared, which seemed endless.

Vishnu descended in the form of the Varaha Avatar and sought to find the end. Brahma asked the Ketaki Flower to lie that Brahma had seen the end. Then, Shiva appeared and explained the meaning of the end to both of them. Vishnu's devotion pleased Shiva, and he gave him a boon, but he was displeased with Brahma and said, "You lied, so you will not be worshiped on earth."

This legend appears to have been planted by devotees of Lord Shiva.

4 ] The Widespread Worship of Vishnu and Shiva: Vishnu and Shiva are worshiped mostly because they are in control of protection or preservation, and destruction or regeneration. The worshiper gains something from them, and as mentioned earlier by me, people get nothing by worshiping Brahma, and so he is not worshiped.

Brahma's only function is the creation of the Universe, which happens just once. Therefore, people feel that there is nothing to be gained by worshiping him. This is probably the reason why there are very few temples of Brahma, like the famous Brahma temple in Pushkar in Rajasthan and Tirupattur in Tamil Nadu.

5 ] Only Convincing Reason: There are many religious, mythological, and social reasons behind not worshiping Brahma. The only reason that appears convincing is that his role is limited to the creation of the Universe, his worship is less popular. On the other hand, gods like Vishnu and Shiva are worshiped more because worshipers are seeking benefits and favors from them.

6 ] Mantras of Brahma: Despite all that has been mentioned above, there are some Mantras dedicated to Brahma, including some Gayatri and Shabar Mantras. These Mantras are chanted for the gain of something or the other. However, unlike the Mantras of other Hindu Deities, special ritual or worship of Brahma is not prescribed for chanting these Mantras.

All Hindu Mythological and Religious Texts mention time and again that Brahma has four faces, which symbolize the four Vedas:
Rig Veda – Knowledge
Yajur Veda – Karma
Sama Veda – Devotion
Atharva Veda – Tantra and Mystery

  1. I really don't like you have disrespected Brahma Ji just so you are ardent Shiva Devotee. Can you also explain why Vishwakarma Baba is being worshipped widespread in our Hindu religion then he is Brahma himself. We humans interpretation are beyond capable to understand if lord bramha's head was chopped off, fifth head as the creation began was attracting lot of negative energy so it was unbearable for the universe to handle so someone has to do the job lord shiva is good with cutting and mixing stuffs he did the same with our beloved ganesha. Shiva devotees take pride just because their God looked cool cutting Brahma Ji's head so they have widely mispread rumour that Brahma Ji is not being capable of worshipping which is completely stupid. He infact committed Brahma-Hatya he had to do lots of penance to get rid of curse. Lord Shiva was infact mind born child of Brahma Ji Vishnu Purana confirms it. The child was the anger of Brahma Ji and it cried so Brahma Ji said Rudra be your name. Narasimha Purana also confirms the same thing it further mentions that lord shiva had two forms one half is man and other woman so something to do with Parvati aspects here. So it is really naive to even think that Brahma Ji shouldn't be worshipped. I worship him regularly and I have great amount of respect towards him this narrative that he is not worthy to worship must be stopped. I completely disagree with what you just said even though you have lots of knowledge about mantra and stuffs respectfully saying you are very very wrong here...
