Mantras and Prayers For Eclipses

There will be a Solar Eclipse or Surya Grahan on the 9th of March 2016 around the time of Sunrise, which will be visible in some regions of the world, including certain parts of India for periods ranging from a few minutes to a little over an hour.  As always, there are a lot of recommendations, dos and don’ts for the Grahan Kaal period. Normally on an average, there are likely to be four Eclipses in a year, but there have been a few years here and there where the average has been exceeded.

Solar and Lunar Eclipse or Surya and Chandra Grahan have great significance in the Hindu Religion since time immemorial and the observance of specific rituals and the chanting of prayers during the Grahan Kaal or The Eclipse Period have been dated back to the ancient Vedic times.  Many readers of this site will definitely have come across references to many Mantra, Yantra, Tantra Sadhanas and numerous Totke, Upay and other Indian Paranormal Remedies, which have been recommended for the period of either a Solar or Lunar Eclipse or both. This is so because traditional Hindu Mantra Shastra believes that the chances of gaining Siddhi or Mastery over some specific Tantra is higher during the Grahan Kaal.

Apart from the traditional religious Grahan Kaal rituals, Pujas and the specific advanced Mantra Sadhanas prescribed for this period, most scholars prescribe the chanting of  the Surya Gayatri Mantra during a Surya Grahan and the Chandra Gayatri Mantra during the Chandra Grahan. The chanting of some specific Astrological Mantras, Chalisas,  Slokas and Stotras , is also popular during the period of Eclipses. Certain advanced Sadhakas chant special Mantras related to the Kundalini Shakti during the Grahan Kaal to stimulate and awaken or balance their Kundalini Shakti.

Traditional Hinduism believes that Rahu[Dragons Head or North Node] and Ketu[ Dragons Tail or South Node] play a great role in Eclipsing the Sun or Moon. Hence, it is believed that there are more chances of success in Mantra Sadhanas related to Rahu and Ketu, including Mantra Sadhanas for removal of Doshas , like the Kaal Sarp Dosha.
